Type WritterNewson Academy opened in 2007. We are a small and friendly independent drama school, offering weekly Drama classes & related activities. We accept children from 3 years old.

We aim to provide parents with an alternative option to the heavily franchised field of performing arts classes. Improve your child’s self – confidence, self– esteem and communication skills and to have fun whilst doing it. Classes currently in West Byfleet -looking to expand locations.
We also aim to prepare children for a successful future in any walk of life and to have fun whilst doing it!

The Academy is run Jo Anne Newson is a Professional Actress & Singer, having graduated from the University of Hertfordshire in 1998, BA Hons Performing Arts. Full Member Society of Speech & Drama Teachers & Actors Equity. To read more about Jo Anne, please click here.

Newson Academy of Performing Arts offering Children & Adults:

  • Regular Drama Classes of either 45 minutes, 1 hour or 1 hour 15 minutes depending on age – Drama Tots, Infant, Junior, Inter, Senior and Advanced groups
  • Private Speech & Drama lessons,
  • Audition Coaching
  • Nursery Drama Classes
  • Easter & Summer Holiday workshops
  • Workshops - Schools & Organisations
  • LAMDA Examinations in Acting, Reading for Performance, Speaking of Verse & Prose, Mime & Musical Theatre, which can be taken – solo, duologue and in groups.

    • Newson Academy will:

  • Build confidence and communication skills through drama.
  • Provide a fun & safe environment to learn in
  • Provide performance opportunities
  • Encourage each child to fulfill their potential & learn new skills

    • A typical class will consist of:

  • A physical and vocal warm up.
  • Drama Games and Exercises.
  • Characterization & Improvisation.

  • Mime, Poetry, Plays, Role-play, Script Work & Voice Production.

    • The LAMDA Examination Syllabus will be incorporated into all of the drama classes as examinations can be taken from 5 years old. Examinations are not compulsory but do offer our students the chance to benchmark progress over time.
